What Is CBG? A Beginner’s Guide

July 23, 2021 by Andrea Fonseka

The hemp plant contains over 400 unique chemicals. Researchers only stated to break the surface of the potential benefits they offer.

Cannabigerol (CBG) continues to make its way to the spotlight as it proves itself useful. What is CBG?

Let’s take a look a more in-depth look at cannabigerol and discover its potential benefits!

Cannabinoids

Cannabis plants, including hemp, Indica, and Sativa, all contain compounds called cannabinoids. All chemicals in the plants that interact with receptors in the body get the label “cannabinoid”.

Some cannabinoids interact with the brain and nervous system, making them psychoactive compounds. Others interact with the immune system or other parts of the body in different ways, but do not alter mental perception.

What Is CBG?

Though less abundant than CBD in the hemp plant, this cannabinoid packs the same punch as its more popular cannabinoid cousin. How do they compare?

CBD Vs CBG

Cannabigerol, the decarboxylated form of Cannabigerolic acid, serves as the parent molecule for other cannabinoids. This means they all, including CBD, synthesize from this main compound.

The human body contains CB1 receptors on the brain and nervous system and CB2 receptors on the immune cells. While CB1 stimulation creates a psychoactive effect, CB2 activation creates different immune responses.

CBD oil stimulates the production of anandamide, a natural cannabinoid produced by the human body. Through this action, CBD indirectly interacts with mostly CB2 receptors, which seemingly helps reduce pain and inflammation.

CBG directly works on both CB1 and CB2 receptors. This seems to produce a bigger effect on the body.

Benefits of CBG Oil

CBG oil can be derived from the best quality CBG flower to get the desired effect. Many people know the benefits of CBD, but lack knowledge regarding CBG. This cannabinoid offers too many potential benefits to overlook. Here are the benefits of CBG oil!

Buffers Against THC Effects

THC connects to receptors in the brain and gives the iconic marijuana high to users. While THC does provide some benefits, this can also create overwhelming consequences. THC slows reaction times and can make a person feel utterly dumb.

CBG competes with the same CB1 receptors on the brain and buffers these effects. So, if somebody wants the benefits of THC without it becoming overwhelming, they may want to rise CBG oil.

May Fight Inflammation and Pain

When CBG binds to CB2 receptors in the body, it activates an immune response. This triggers the body to release cytokines that stop its own inflammatory process.

People may find this especially useful after injuries when suffering from inflamed rashes, and when dealing with autoimmune disorders, like IBS. When you reduce inflammation, it takes the pressure off of the nerves and also relieves pain. This cannabinoid may also alter the way the body perceives pain, making it especially useful.

Entourage Effect

Many cannabinoids tend to produce a synergistic effect when used in tandem. This is called an entourage effect. Taking CBG oil might enhance the effectiveness of your CBD oil!
