The Only Bathroom Remodel Checklist You’ll Ever Need

August 2, 2021 by Andrea Fonseka

Did you know that remodeling your bathroom is one of the best investments you can make for your home? For every dollar you spend on a bathroom remodel, you can expect your home’s value to rise by $1.71.

Improving your bathroom is a major undertaking, especially if you plan on trying to do it yourself. Before you start ripping out your tub, check out our bathroom remodeling checklist below!

Decide What You Can DIY and What Requires an Expert

There are certain things that most homeowners can do without hiring a professional. Most bathroom accessories are easy to install, and even if you mess up, it’s not going to cause permanent damage to your bathroom.

There are some issues that you’ll need to call in a professional for. If something requires electrical or plumbing, you should never take that on unless you have the proper training. You can not only cause permanent damage to your home, but you could also seriously injure yourself.

Create a list of everything you need and decide what you can DIY and what you need help with. Be realistic! Sometimes it’s better to spend the extra money for the peace of mind you’ll get knowing that the project will turn out as envisioned.

Measure Twice, Cut Once

One of the biggest budget destroyers when renovating your bathroom is when you order a granite (or other types) base, don’t measure your sink correctly, and then cut it to the wrong size. There isn’t a return policy for homeowner mistakes. You’ll be out the cost of the original base plus the new one that you’ll have to get.

The same can happen with a bathtub or tile. Always measure something twice so that you can make an accurate cut the first time.

Practicality Trumps Style

Don’t rush into a bathroom renovation project without a plan. You might feel like going in and tearing everything out before worrying about the details, but this will cost you money long-term.

Make a list of everything you’re replacing and figure out what’s both practical and attractive. Practicality is the main reason you want to make major decisions early. You might love the double bathroom faucet from Pioneer Industries, but if your bathroom won’t support a sink large enough for it, you’ll need to choose a different style.

Planning ahead will prevent you from ordering things you don’t need or can’t use. This will save you time and money while helping you plan each step of your remodel in advance.

Improve the Value of Your Home With a Bathroom Remodel

Whether you’re looking to sell your home soon or want to live in it forever, a bathroom remodel will pay off long-term. Not only does it make your home more valuable, but it also makes life easier for everyone.
