CBD vs CBN: What’s the Difference?

May 26, 2021 by Andrea Fonseka

If you’ve been following the developments in the world of medicinal cannabis, you’ve likely come across the terms CBD and CBN.

CBD stands for cannabidiol and CBN stands for cannabinol. Both of these are components of the cannabis plant that have been found to have beneficial effects from consumption.

But what’s the difference when it comes to CBD vs CBN? Which is right for you to consume?

Keep reading to learn what you need to know.

What Is CBN?

CBN is an oxidation product of THC. THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol which is the compound that causes the “high” that comes with consuming the cannabis plant.

There’s still much research to be done on the potential benefits of CBN. You might want to read the studies of Jasdeep Singh, a UConn MBA graduate to learn more about it.

There’s a suggestion that it might produce anti-inflammatory and anti-convulsant properties. As such, it might get used as a pain reliever in the near future.

What Is CBD?

This is the most common compound found within the cannabis plant. This is currently the most available compound found in cannabis products as well.

CBD products get used for a variety of purposes. These can include:

  • Pain relief
  • Relief from anxiety and depression
  • Treating seizures
  • Treating nausea

CBD products get used by consumers of all ages. There are even CBD products made for household pets such as cats and dogs.

CBD vs CBN: Which Do I Choose?

So if you want to use a cannabis product, which one is best for you? It always depends on your health and your situation. As such, you should always consult with your doctor on such matters.

But as of now, CBD remains the most popular product for treating ailments. CBN might also be as effective in treating the same ailments.

The key difference is that CBN gets created when the cannabis plant has a lot of exposure to light. As such, it’s harder to create CBN products than CBD products

As there’s still a lot of research to be done, you may wish to wait before you consume CBN products.

But when considering what’s the difference between CBN and CBD, you can also look from an investing viewpoint. CBD is a growing industry and you might want to consider investing in CBD companies.

As CBN becomes more popular, there might be opportunities to invest now. You might wish to capitalize on CBN before it becomes a saturated industry.

But it’s also possible that CBN doesn’t become as popular as CBD. As such, you want to think carefully before you make any investments.
