The IPL is one tournament in which batsmen can lead their team to victory with some swashbuckling batting. It’s always special when a batsman scores a century in the shortest format of the game. Usually, this feat steers the team to victory. In this article, we shall discuss those super batsmen who scored the fastest centuries in IPL history, and made their teams win comprehensively.
Even in IPL live score 2021, we’re expecting the best performances and new records from the batsmen. But before that, let’s find out which batsmen have already etched their name in the tournament’s history.
- Chris Gayle (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Chris Gayle is still remembered for his fastest century in the IPL. In 2013, he finished as the highest run-getter in T20. Leaving Pune Warriors helpless, Gayle smashed 100 runs in just 30 balls. Till date, this is the fastest ton in T20 cricket.
At the end of the match, Gayle was declared the Player of the Match as he led RCB to victory by a huge 130 run margin.
- Yusuf Pathan (Rajasthan Royals)
In the initial years of the IPL, Yusuf Pathan was in good form while playing for Rajasthan Royals. In 2010, Pathan showcased his best performance that’s still etched in IPL history. In that match, his team had to chase 212 against Mumbai Indians in 20 overs. It was an impossible chase for the RR team. But Pathan decided to put his best foot forward in the game. With literally nothing to lose, Pathan smashed 100 runs in only 37 balls, including nine fours and eight sixes.
Mumbai, however, won the match with a narrow margin of four runs. But Pathan’s century is still considered a brilliant knock, and archived in IPL history forever.
- David Miller (Kings XI Punjab)
David Miller is well-known as one of the powerful hitters of the game. In 2013, in Match 51 of IPL, RCB bowlers learned that the hard way. With a 190/3 in 20 overs, RCB was confident of a win. They were even more excited when Punjab was struggling at 64/4 in 9.5 overs.
But what happened in the next 8.1 overs was unimaginable! Miller simply let loose and decided to change the course of the game. He pulled, drove and cut to his best. If there was a ball in his arc, it was straight out of the park. The RCB bowlers were helpless.
With his brilliant performance, Miller hit his century in only 38 balls, and finished the game with a six. Overall, he hit eight fours and seven sixes, which were enough for Kings XI Punjab fans to keep dancing all night long.
- Adam Gilchrist (Deccan Chargers)
Adam Gilchrist is undoubtedly one of the best wicket-keeper batsmen the IPL has ever seen. His ball-hitting ability was incredible, and only a few players could match that. During the inaugural IPL season, Gilchrist showcased a wonderful performance. In the 14th match of the first IPL season, the Mumbai Indians batted first to put up a score of 154/7.
But they surely had to work on their bowling during the match. Gilchrist seized the bull by the horns, and went all out. Chasing 155, he smashed the Mumbai bowlers all over the park, reaching his century in just 42 balls. Overall, he hit nine fours and ten sixes while taking the Deccan Chargers home to win by 10 wickets, with eight overs remaining.
- AB de Villiers (Royal Challengers Bangalore) & David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
The fifth-fastest century in the IPL is shared by two brilliant players, AB de Villiers and David Warner. Both reached their 3-figure mark in 43 balls.
While AB de Villiers scored his century against the Gujarat Lions in 2016, David Warner made this record century in the IPL game against KKR in 2017. Both legends led their respective teams to victory.
So, these are the wonderful IPL batsmen with the fastest centuries under their name. But do you think the record set by Gayle of scoring 100 in 30 balls will be overhauled ever? We still have to find that out in theIPL live score 2021. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
