A Comprehensive Guide To Cosmetic Dentistry And Why It Is Popular In 2022

November 3, 2022 by Andrea Fonseka

Cosmetic dentistry is now more popular than ever. Whether your teeth are chipped, stained, worn, broken, gappy, or misaligned, numerous dental procedures on the market can improve their appearance and give you more confidence in your smile.

If your teeth are dirtied, discoloured, worn, damaged, broken, misaligned, misshapen, or have gaps between them, modern cosmetic dentistry can help. A “smile makeover” involves one or more cosmetic dentistry procedures to improve the appearance of your smile.

Cosmetic dentists collaborate with you to create a treatment plan. You can learn more about the various types of cosmetic dental procedures available by reading the information provided below.

Types of Cosmetic Dentistry

When you consult a cosmetic dentist, you will have the option of undergoing one or more of these dental treatments. Here is a list of common cosmetic dental treatments and why they may be required.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most basic and inexpensive ways to improve your smile. Teeth can be bleached in your dentist’s office with in-office products for about $500, or you can buy mould and gels from your dentist Springfield to whiten your teeth at home.

Whitening toothpaste, rinses, and Whitestrips are available over the counter at retail stores for convenient at-home whitening. The prices of these items range from $3 to $50.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are wafer-thin, tooth-coloured porcelain or resin shells covering the teeth’ front surface. These thin shells are bonded (cemented) to the front of the teeth after about a half-millimetre of enamel is removed from the tooth surface, changing their colour, shape, size, or length.

Veneers are commonly known as “Hollywood teeth.” As the name implies, this technique can cost between $500 and $1,300 per tooth.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding entails the placement of a tooth-coloured, putty-like resin, which is a durable plastic material, to the tooth and strengthening it with an ultraviolet or laser light, thereby bonding the material to the tooth. The tooth is then cut, shaped, and polished by your dentist.

Bonding can be used to repair decayed, chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth; it is also an excellent cosmetic alternative to, or replacement for, amalgam or silver fillings. Bonding takes 30 to 60 minutes and costs $100 to $400 per tooth.

Dental Crown

A dental crown, also known as a cap, fits over and replaces the entire decayed or damaged tooth above the gum line, restoring the tooth’s shape, size, strength, and appearance.

Crowns can prevent a weak tooth from breaking or holding a cracked tooth together; they can also be used to hide misshapen or severely discoloured teeth. Crowns can be made of metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, resin, or ceramic and range in price from $500 to $900.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays, also known as indirect fillings, are dental restorations made of gold, porcelain, or composite materials that fill decayed or damaged teeth. Inlays and onlays are created in a dental laboratory and bonded into place by your dentist, whereas dental fillings are moulded into place during an office visit.

When the material is bonded within the centre of a tooth, the filling is called an “inlay”. When the filling includes one or more points of the tooth or covers the biting surface, it is called an “onlay.” Inlays and onlays are alternatives to crowns that preserve as many healthy teeth as possible. This cosmetic dentistry procedure ranges in price from $650 to $1,200 per tooth.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium tooth roots inserted into a missing tooth’s bone socket. As the jawbone heals, it grows around the implanted metal post, securing it and laying the groundwork for a replacement tooth. This procedure can cost between $1,250 and $3,000. Visit the website to learn more.

Other Options

A bridge is designed with crowns on either side of a gap and false teeth. A removable replacement for missing teeth is a denture. Warner dental braces can straighten crooked or misaligned teeth by applying intense pressure over time to move teeth in a given direction gradually.

Why Cosmetic Dentistry is Becoming More Popular

People are increasingly going to the dentist for cosmetic work rather than routine procedures like root canals and fillings. Several factors have contributed to the dramatic increase in cosmetic dentistry, making it more popular than ever.

Hollywood Inspired

Movie stars and celebrities are more available and visible than ever before, and the majority of them have performed cosmetic dentistry procedures. These celebrities motivate us to strive for the same level of physical perfection that they have. As Hollywood adopted cosmetic dentistry, the rest of the world followed suit.

Affordable

Because of the high demand for cosmetic dentistry work and the increasing number of trained and qualified dentists entering the field, cosmetic dentistry is now incredibly affordable. People who could only dream of having a perfect smile can now afford many of the available cosmetic procedures.
