Skincare after peeling

February 22, 2022 by Andrea Fonseka

If you decide to peel your face with PRX-T33 in the beautician’s office, especially while using dermal fillers, we recommend reading this article.

Why do you need skincare after peeling?

If you have made the decision to peel, you already know about its strengths. You can’t imagine a better procedure to invigorate and improve the quality of the skin.

Peeling can do a lot:

  • evens out skin tone and texture;
  • brightens pigmentation;
  • reduces acne spots;
  • smoothest emerging wrinkles;
  • improves the overall appearance of the skin.

But for all of the above to become a reality, it is necessary to adhere to the rules of the game. What does it mean?

  1. First, do not forget that any aggressive effect on the skin (and peeling is a real stress for it) requires a recovery program.
  2. Secondly, after peeling, the skin is especially vulnerable to all kinds of infections and becomes very sensitive due to the fact that its top layer is damaged. Therefore, special protection is required.
  3. Thirdly, skin cells after peeling begin to work more intensively, which ensures accelerated renewal. Your task is to help them in this difficult task with the help of cosmetics.

What reaction is normal

If you’re an avid social media user, you’ll know that skincare communities are full of discussions about how peeling affects the skin. Horror stories side by side with stories about wonderful acids that overnight made mom look like a sister.

We all have subjective assessments, which can be both positive and negative. The bottom line is that peeling is really capable of transformation. But what it will depend, among other things, on post-peeling care.

Before proceeding with the procedure, it makes sense to check how the skin reacts to the effects of chemical agents.

What to look for immediately after peeling?

It is considered normal if:

  • during peeling, you feel a slight tingling and burning sensation;
  • after the procedure, the skin became noticeably reddened;
  • a day later, the skin began to peel off.

It is worth sounding the alarm if:

  • sores and inflamed areas appeared on the skin;
  • the temperature has risen;
  • you experience itching and discomfort;
  • on the third day after the procedure, redness of the skin does not go away;
  • weeping areas appeared at the site of peeling and constant itching worries.

Stages of post-peel care

Despite the fact that women like the results, not everyone is ready to repeat the procedure. In most cases, the explanation boils down to two main complaints – unpleasant sensations in the process and too laborious skincare after peeling.

It’s hard to disagree with the first, although in fairness it’s worth recognizing that the feeling of discomfort during the procedure is individual: someone feels a burning sensation and itching, and for someone, the session goes almost unnoticed.

As for the care after chemical peeling, it is complicated only at first glance. It really comes down to three main steps:

  • delicate cleansing;
  • complex hydration;
  • powerful UV protection (SPF 50).

For superficial peeling

We will warn you right away: the best time for peeling is the evening. Then you can apply your usual night cream, perhaps a thicker layer than usual, to allow the cells to receive maximum support. In addition, the night is the time for restoration work. The old care program:

  • gentle cleansing with mousse or foam (no scrubs!);
  • toning;
  • moisturizing;
  • ultraviolet protection with the most powerful SPF (daytime) and nutrition and hydration (evening).

For medium peeling

The rehabilitation period after a median peel is slightly longer than after a superficial one. This is due to the deeper effect of acids on the skin. Recovery is usually 5-8 days. On the third day, active peeling may begin. The main thing is not to rip off the crusts, let them be torn off naturally. Everything else is the same:

  • gentle cleansing without scrub;
  • toning;
  • moisturizing;
  • UV protection during the day and nutrition or hydration in the evening.

General recommendations after any type of peeling:

  • reduce physical activity to a minimum;
  • exclude alcohol, spicy and too salty foods;
  • cancel hot bath and sauna;
  • avoid direct sunlight.
