These tips can help you to influence the course of your illness, enabling you to take greater control over your symptoms, to stay well longer, and to quickly recover from any mood episode or relapse.

Symptoms

Symptoms are often activated by a stressful situation. This may take the form of a relationship breakdown; physical, sexual, or emotional misuse; money problems; or the death of a close family member.

Symptoms are thought to be due to changes in the balance of some neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly noradrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine.
