A good sleep is something we all know is important, but few of us actually get on a consistent basis. It can provide us with a ton of benefits from better focus and an improved immune system, yet around 35% of American adults sleep less than seven hours every night.

While some of these sleep issues are due to a sleep disorder, this isn’t always the case and there are many reasons for poor sleep. But whatever the reason, your low-quality sleep isn’t destined to continue.

Without any further ado, let’s go over some great hints for having a better rest during the night.

Get a Nicer Mattress

Because you spend about a third of your life on it, it is a good idea to invest in a quality mattress. It should not only provide optimal comfort, but should also offer up enough support to prevent your body from getting sore.

Of course, there are also other important things to keep in mind when looking for a mattress. For example, here are some ideas about the best cooling mattresses to keep you comfortable all night long. Also, be sure to consider the cost, size and type of mattress too.

Avoid Electronics and Technology Right Before Bed

Most of us use electronics and technology for most of our waking hours. This could be the computer at work, our phones, video games and a variety of other things. However, you should do your best to avoid using them before bed. These devices give off a bright light from their screen that can make it hard for our bodies to naturally prepare for sleep. Try to put the devices down at least an hour before bed, and if you do need to use them, be sure to turn their brightness way down.

Have a Consistent Sleep Schedule

Sleeping consistently in terms of the times you go to sleep and wake up would also be great for improving your sleep. If you are always going to bed at different times, it can confuse the natural sleep and wake cycle of your body. If it is confused, it might not know whether it should be releasing hormones that should be preparing you for sleep, or energizing you for the day. This schedule doesn’t need to be exactly the same every day, but should be relatively close.

If you don’t find time to wind down and relax in the evening, it should come as no surprise that you are struggling to fall asleep. If you try to sleep right after a workout or watching an action movie, your body will not be prepared and you will experience difficulty. The more you can relax and wind down, the more time your body will have to prepare itself for sleep. As for what you do to relax, that all depends on your preferences. Some people may do some yoga or meditation, while others may prefer to have a bath and read their favorite book.

Optimize Your Bedroom Environment

While a mattress is a crucial element to how well you sleep, it isn’t the only one. There are other elements of your sleeping environment that you have to keep in mind. This includes ensuring your bedroom is dark, making sure that it is quiet and keeping the temperature comfortable. If a room is too hot, too loud or too bright, you may find it hard to sleep well.

In conclusion, any of these hints and tips will be able to help ensure you have a better and more restful sleep.
